Sonolusso · The Circle Pricing & Profit Model · For LBJ 2026-07-09
◆ The Sonolusso Circle

Can we justify $250
for a four-piece bundle?

A pricing and profit model built from real invoice data — what each unit costs to make, what each channel earns, and how 778 bundles reach $50,000 in profit. This is the math behind the strategy.

The product costs $32 to make.
We're charging $250. Is that defensible?

The honest version of LBJ's question is this: when you can manufacture a unit for $25, does a $68–$88 retail price hold up? And does a $250 bundle — four products that cost $103 to land in Indianapolis — make sense in a market full of clean beauty brands at $40–$60?

The answer is yes, and here's why: the $250 is not paying for ingredients. It's paying for the ritual, the positioning, and the channel economics that make the business sustainable. The margin funds the ambassador program, the spa partnerships, and the growth. Without it, we're another nice brand that can't afford to scale.

We own the sleep skincare category — we're the only brand combining certified organic botanical skincare with sleep science and ritual. The price has to reflect that, or we undersell what makes us unique. — LBJ, Intake Form 2026-07-02

What each unit actually costs.

Every number here comes from a real invoice — Vitelle Dermatology Laboratories Invoice #39881, paid February 18, 2026, $773.60 total for 24 units (6 of each product). No estimates, no benchmarks. This is what we paid.

Product Mfg Cost Packaging Inbound Ship Landed (Indy) Retail Margin
Calendula Cleansing Lotion (8oz) $22.55 $3.50 $6.46 $32.51 $68 36%
Silk Radiance Serum — Comfrey (1oz) $24.95 $1.25 $6.46 $32.66 $88 49%
Cucumber Moisturizing Cream (2oz) $24.25 $1.25 $6.46 $31.96 $78 44%
Hibiscus Silk Night Cream (1.7oz) $24.10 $1.25 $6.46 $31.81 $85 49%

Inbound shipping ($155) covers Vitelle in Vancouver, BC to our packing center in Indianapolis. This is the cost to get product into the country — not the cost to ship to a customer.

Manufacturing + packaging (1 of each) $103.10
Inbound shipping (4 units × $6.46) $25.83
Outbound shipping (est. USPS Priority) $8.00
Payment processing (~3.3%) $8.25
All-in cost per bundle ~$145.18

Shipping note: Real Shopify order data (7 orders, Oct 2025–Apr 2026) shows a $145 free-shipping threshold. The $250 bundle ships free to the customer. Sonolusso absorbs the outbound cost — estimated $8–10 for USPS Priority from Indianapolis. Numbers hold at that range.

$250 retail. $103 profit. 42% margin.

The four-piece bundle — Calendula Lotion, Comfrey Serum, Cucumber Cream, Hibiscus Night Cream — is the hero product. It's the complete ritual in one box, and it's where the margin lives.

$103.82
Profit per bundle (DTC)

At $250 retail with free shipping, each bundle generates $103.82 in profit after all costs — manufacturing, packaging, inbound and outbound shipping, and payment processing.

That's a 41.5% gross margin on a luxury botanical product. For context, prestige skincare brands typically target 60–80% gross margin. We're conservative — and that's intentional, because the margin funds the channels.

To reach $50,000 in profit through DTC alone, we need to sell 482 bundles — about $120,000 in revenue. That's roughly 1.3 bundles per day for a year. Achievable for a brand with growing Instagram and ambassador reach.

The Circle: not just one price, one path.

The bundle doesn't live in one place. It moves through five channels — each with its own price point, margin, and role. DTC carries the margin. Ambassadors carry the reach. Spas carry the credibility. HR perks and closing gifts carry the volume. Together, they're the Circle.

Every channel, side by side.

The floor is $150. Below that, we're losing money or working for free. The ceiling is $250 — full retail DTC. Everything in between is a strategic choice about who we're selling to and why.

778 bundles. Five channels. One year.

No single channel gets us there alone. The realistic path is a blended mix — DTC carries the largest share of profit, ambassadors drive the reach, and wholesale/bulk channels add volume. Here's what that looks like.

Channel Mix Price Profit/Unit Units Revenue Profit
DTC (website) 35% $250 $103.82 272 $68,089 $28,276

778 bundles in a year is 2–3 bundles per day. With an active Instagram, 5+ ambassadors, and one or two spa partnerships, that's a realistic Year 1 target — not a stretch goal.

~2.1/day
Bundles to hit the target

DTC alone needs 482 bundles — 1.3/day. The blended path needs 778 — 2.1/day. The difference is made up by channels that do the selling for us: ambassadors posting, spas stocking, realtors gifting.

Two decisions to make the price land.

$250 is a considered purchase. These two Shopify features make it easier to say yes — without discounting the product itself.

Payment Options
Shopify Pay + Afterpay

Shopify Pay — built-in, fastest checkout. Already available, just needs enabling in Settings → Payments.

Afterpay — Buy Now, Pay Later. Splits $250 into four $62.50 payments. Popular with the 28–40 demographic. No cost to Sonolusso beyond standard processing fees — Afterpay absorbs the risk.

BNPL increases conversion on $200+ carts by 20–30% industry-wide. For a $250 bundle, this is the single highest-impact change we can make.
Subscribe & Save
Monthly or Quarterly Replenishment

Every product is replenishable. Serum and Cream run out monthly. The full bundle lasts a season. A subscription turns one-time buyers into recurring revenue.

Recommended discount: 10–15%. At 15% off ($212.50), profit is ~$66/bundle (26% margin). At 10% off ($225), profit is ~$79/bundle (35% margin).

Replenishment cadence: Serum monthly, Cream monthly/quarterly, Lotion quarterly, Bundle quarterly. Shopify native subscriptions — no Recharge needed.

Six things to remember.
